MuXu, means kiss in Basque, and Creations because that is what it is all about

About Ainara and MuXu Creations

I am committed to transparency and reinvention. For that reason, MuXu's mission is to be part of the solution by educating and offering alternatives to the impact of fast fashion. We create one-of-a-kind pieces that merge the art of sewing and painting.

How Did It All Begin?

At age 17, I decided to have formal training in the arts to apply to art school in case my grades were not enough to get accepted into psychology (because I learned at a very young age that we need a plan B to survive). I got the score, so I passionately dedicated the next part of my life to obtaining my Master’s degree and Ph.D., working in a variety of jobs, and practicing psychology for the next 20 years. This journey even included moving from Spain to the USA to continue my research and working in a different country, starting all over again. But painting continued to be part of my journey as a way of coping and self-care.

A few years ago, health challenges and burnout led me to explore a new passion. I got a sewing machine, but I had no idea about sewing. I looked for resources and found San Diego College of Continuing Education (SDCCE) in the Clothing and Textile Program, Sewn Products Business, and other entrepreneurial organizations such as SBDC. I completed an internship at Sew Loka with Claudia, learning how to manage a small business as a true maker. Since then, I have not stopped! Podcasts, events, panels, markets, B2B, community activities…

The MuXu Difference

MuXu is the link between painting and sewing. Combining these two arts, I founded a slow fashion brand.

Why a Slow Fashion Brand and Not the Easy Way?

Fast fashion has a distressing impact on the planet, creating an overwhelming amount of waste and pressuring consumers to buy an unnecessary number of items each season that end up in landfills. It encourages mass production at the lowest cost, ultimately resulting in a cost paid by someone else through a lack of job regulations or pollution.

What Do We Do?

We rescue fabrics: swatches, deadstock rolls of fabric, scraps, or vintage pieces, and transform them into one-of-a-kind garments that tell a story by printing our watercolors, creating unique and artistic prints and patterns.

Those who wear a MuXu Creations piece are making a strong statement about their mindset: sustainability with style, uniqueness, and quality, enjoying the distinctiveness of each garment with peace of mind.
