Ainara Calahorra Romillo is the founder and maker behind MuXu Creations, a Slow Fashion brand based in San Diego. Ainara's journey involved a personal and professional process of starting over at the age of 40, leaving behind a career as a psychologist, and embracing a new path in the world of Slow Fashion. MuXu focuses on creating sustainable, one-of-a-kind pieces by rescuing fabrics and transforming them into garments that last longer. Transparency and reconnecting customers with the creation process are central to MuXu's mission.
Ainara believes that taking risks aligned with one's purpose or vision is essential for a fulfilling life and career. Switching careers was a significant challenge, but Ainara faced it with determination and pride. MuXu offers a new way to live more sustainably, caring for the future of the planet and fostering creativity.
When it comes to showing visitors around San Diego, Ainara highlights the city's diverse natural landscapes and neighborhoods. From mountain towns like Julian to desert landscapes in Borrego Springs, San Diego offers a variety of unique experiences. Ainara also mentions South Park as a neighborhood with a special place in her heart, reminiscent of the neighborhoods she grew up in.
Ainara dedicates her shoutout to the teachers, mentors, and organizations that have supported their journey, including San Diego College Continuing Education, Sew Loka, Sustainability is Sexy, and the vibrant community of sustainable small businesses in San Diego.
