Sustainable Quick Tips

Here you have a compilation of useful sustainable quick tips that we have shared on social media or in our biweekly newsletter to use under your own consideration. You can share yours with us here!:

  • Did you know this? The Gutermann’s bobbin thread can be opened and you can transport or put away your needles inside, and in that way reuse the bobbins! (We use this brand in our products because of the quality of the thread to create durable creations, not sponsored by them at all...).

  • Reuse the butter stick paper mache as the paper mache for your cupcakes.

  • Use the water from your dehumidifier (with clean filters) to water your plants. It does not have chlorine or other added chemicals… and your plants will be happy.

  • Be like Gaudí, and use trencadís, “chopped”, a variant of zellige to recycle and reuse your broken plates, porcelain pieces, etc. to create colorful sculptures, and jars. Did you know that Barcelona's Park Güell and other Gaudi creations are made from artisanal broken pieces to be upcycled into art? If you like Modernism here is a book recommendation “Painter of Souls” by Ildefonso Falcones.

  • We know that you will think this is super obvious, but it is a good reminder, without excuses during the heat waves: Hang your wet clothes on a cord or rack instead of using a dryer. The sun always finishes the pre-shirking process for MuXu upcycled fabrics that we use in your products.

  • Reuse your food jars as beautiful vases, here is an example of a succulent getting ready to propagate from our patio.

  • Repurpose books to create greeting cards and labels for your next presents; take a look at our pins to have an example (from a cookbook to the label for the MuXu pins that you get with a recipe).

  • Where to dispose of unused and expired medicines. The US Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration has an easy and quick searching tool to find by Zip Code or City and State the locations to dispose of your medicines: copy and paste this link to find the closest to you (some pharmacies are collectors): https://apps.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/pubdispsearch/spring/main?execution=e1s1

  • Root-to-stem: cooking utilizing whole fruit or vegetable, including peels, stems, and leaves, in creative recipes as a way to reduce waste. I will ask Santosha Nutrition and let you know more, or you can share your Root-to-stem recipes with us!
